How I Ran a Marathon in the USA!
I am Anna, Jake and Justin´s Au Pair from Germany.
With the decision to come to California for a year my life has changed completely. Suddenly there was not only myself to take care of but also two wonderful boys.
Changing my life also includes running on a regular basis and when Lauren my host mom told me about Team In Training I was obsessed with the idea to sign up for that and run my first marathon in San Diego.
For those who don´t know about Team In Training, it is a non-profit organisation that provides its participants with coaching and training expertise in exchange for raising money towards finding a cure for leukemia and other types of blood cancer. The lives of those diagnosed with leukemia totally changes the second they are diagnosed. This change is very different and much more fundamental than the one I have experienced by moving to the US. I cannot even begin to imagine how different my life would be if I was diagnosed with leukemia. When I had my first meeting with Team In Training I was overwhelmed and amazed by their spirit and willingness to help people who suffer from leukemia and lymphoma, and I am proud that I can be a part of that! I trained with 30 other people in the Los Altos area who ranged in age from 20, (that’s me, I was the youngest) to around 50. People were training for different marathons. About 15 of us travelled to San Diego to run the marathon on May 31st.
After about three months of training I ran my marathon on May 31st and I will never forget that day! It was painful, but the feeling I had when I crossed the finish line was unbelieveable! So when I go back to Germany now I come back as a “marathoner” and who knows maybe I will run another one in Germany.
Oh what I almost forgot- running a marathon also helps getting rid of the extra pounds almost every AuPair has to fight with;)

Hi Girls. There is another fun thing to do. You can enroll to the YMCA Gym just for $65 dollars fee. Each month you are going to pay $25. Then you can do a lot of things such as: swim, play bastketball, volleyball, work out, take Zumba classess and other staff. Think about it.

Hi all! If you like concerts I urge to go to Stanford. They have great concerts and most of them are for free or minimum fee. They are at high level. They have usualy at least 3 performances in a week. I love them!
